Pattaya Upgrades Roads, Footpaths & Street Lighting

Improved Access to Pratumnak Hill: Pattaya Upgrades Roads, Footpaths & Street Lighting

Pattaya City is progressing with infrastructure improvements along Second Road towards Pratumnak Hill, introducing freshly resurfaced tarmac roads, upgraded paved pedestrian footpaths and improved modern street lighting. The improvements aim to enhance road safety, general accessibility and convenience for residents, commuters and tourists traveling through South Pattaya.

According to Pattaya Mail, the works form part of Pattaya’s wider urban renewal initiative to modernize public infrastructure and to improve the cities overall street and pedestrian routes.

Key Infrastructure Improvements

(1) Resurfaced Roadways: Construction crews at the time of writing this article are in the midst of laying brand new asphalt along Second Road towards the ascent to Pratumnak Hill. This upgraded road surface is intended to address potholes and uneven sections, improve driving conditions and make travel along this key arterial route safer and more reliable.

(2) Improved Footpaths: Pedestrian walkways are being rebuilt and leveled to replace uneven paving, exposed drainage covers and hazardous surfaces that can cause trips, falls and injuries. Creating smooth, level and consistent footpaths will hopefully improve pedestrian safety and accessibility while walking between South Pattaya and Pratumnak Hill more comfortable. Well-maintained pavements also encourage more people to explore the area on foot, potentially increasing foot traffic to nearby shops, restaurants, cafes and other local businesses. Ultimately, safer and more attractive pedestrian footpaths can help support local commerce and contribute to a more vibrant street environment.

(3) Modern Street Lighting: Upgraded streetlights are also being installed to improve visibility after dark, helping to create safer conditions for pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and motorists, particularly along busy sections of the route. Better nighttime illumination should help drivers identify pedestrians, road hazards and other vehicles more easily, potentially reducing the risk of accidents, especially along stretches where traffic travels at higher speeds. The improved street lighting will hopefully also make pedestrian crossings, junctions and roadside access points more visible, while giving people walking in the area greater confidence and a stronger sense of security after sunset.

Part of Pattaya’s Wider Second Road Revitalization Plan

The improvements form part of broader strategic municipal programme to upgrade Second Road, initiated under Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet who was re-elected for a second term in the latest local city elections held on June 28, 2026. His “We Love Pattaya” team secured a clean sweep, winning all of the local council seats giving him an overwhelmingly strong mandate. The city has prioritized road resurfacing and pedestrian infrastructure following earlier works involving underground utilities and drainage systems.

Second Road and its connection to Pratumnak Hill provides a vital transport link between Pattaya’s commercial areas, established residential neighborhoods and popular tourist attractions. Maintaining reliable road surfaces, safe footpaths and effective street lighting is a crucial precursor to improving everyday mobility, commerce, and the overall experience of residents and tourists alike.

Reporting Infrastructure Problems: Pattaya City Hall Call Center 1337

Maintaining public infrastructure requires ongoing attention, even after improvement works have been successfully completed. Pattaya City encourages residents and tourists to report problems such as damaged road surfaces, broken or uneven footpath tiles, faulty streetlights and blocked drainage systems. When calling 1337 to report an issue, it is important to provide the exact location, a clear description of the problem, and supporting photographs where possible. This vital info and feedback from residents and tourists will go a long way towards helping the relevant authorities to identify the issue and arrange the necessary repairs more efficiently.
